DO Recruitment are delighted to be retained as recruitment partner for a very successful Construction business and are one of the most respected and recognised brands in its sector. They now seek to appoint a Senior Site Manager to be based at their South Yorkshire site.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Project Manager with overall responsibility for the delivery of £3m – £5m project on site, on time, to a high standard, safely and profitably.
  • Responsible for management of Health, Safety, and Environmental issues on site.
  • Take ownership of the allocated project, buying in to the bid, and work as a team with the Contracts Manager, Quantity Surveyor and other staff allocated to the project.
  • In conjunction with other members of the project team, plan for, develop and deliver a profitable project, including reporting, monitoring and resolving any problems and disputes.
  • Develop, grow and maintain the relationship with the Client and their design team.
  • Attend the internal handover meeting with the rest of the assembled project team.
  • Attend and contribute to internal team meetings held with the Contracts Manager and Quantity Surveyor.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Construction and Procurement programmes.
  • In conjunction with the other members of the project team, select and procure sub-contract works at the best value. Ensure that risk and attendances are transferred to the subcontractor.
  • Interview potential sub-contractors ahead of organising pre-let meetings.
  • Chair and provide assistance and input at sub-contract pre-let meetings.
  • Manage the sub-contract works on site, and submit any contractual notices to them.
  • Hold sub-contractor meetings with key sub-contractors, ensuring that design, cost, quality, programme, safety, environment and security are discussed.
  • Monitor and take ownership of the Construction programme including the production of short-term programmes.
  • Assist in the production of monthly progress reports for site meetings.
  • Attend Contract Review meetings required by the Company.
  • Assist our Design Co-ordinators on Design and Contractor Design elements.
  • Understand the form of contract that is being used on the project, including potential pay clauses.
  • Set up and maintain the site to a high standard.
  • Identify and manage any third-party involvement within the project.
  • Ensure that the HSE Plan, Site Waste Management Plan, Project Quality Plan and BREEAM records are set up and maintained.
  • Ensure that Risk Assessments and Method Statements are received in good time, reviewed, signed off and enforced.
  • Understand, manage and monitor the project preliminaries.
  • Ensure that all variations are properly recorded.
  • Requisition materials in good time, ensuring that lead in periods and sufficient buying time for our Buying department are considered.
  • Manage any direct labour employed on site, ensuring that their daily allocation sheets are completed and are accurate. Ensure that plant is used efficiently and off-hired when not in use.
  • Request design information in a timely manner, allowing sufficient time for the approvals process.
  • Set up and maintain the project Technical Query Sheets.
  • Ensure that the works are carried out in line with the contract documents, including drawings and specifications.
  • Manage and communicate the roles of the project team working under your remit on site, so they are aware of their roles and responsibilities.
  • Develop the site staff working under your remit, and identify any training needs they may require.
  • Ensure that the project is adequately resourced at all times.
  • If asked, assist in the preparation of the Operation and Maintenance manuals.
  • Pre-snag the works and complete any items in a timely manner. Ensure that the project is defect free at handover.
  • Assist the Aftercare department with the resolution of defects during the defects period, and assist in obtaining the making good defects certificate in a timely manner.
  • On completion of the project, complete sub-contractor appraisals in conjunction with the Contracts Manager and Quantity Surveyor.
  • Attend and contribute to the lessons learnt review meetings.
  • Carry out support duties to the Estimating/Bid Department as required. This may include site logistics, build-ability, suggesting alternative products, temporary works, method statements, site visits, programmes and preliminaries.
  • Attend interviews and presentations with potential clients.
  • Ensure that records are retained as agreed on the Contract plan.
  • Carry out other duties that the Company reasonably requests.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Capable of being a No 2 to the PM or running your own £3-5m project
  • Can demonstrate competency on QA, understanding drawings & specifications, programme management, managing subcontractors and articulation on a H&S culture
  • Has an overall commitment to represent the company name and a willingness to work hard, find solutions, take control of your sites and lead with enthusiasm.
